Developmental Motivations

Posted by Ken Fields on November 18, 2009 at 9:48 pm.

What motivates you?  What motivates your friends, your companions? (Remember from a previous past that “socio” means “companions.”). What motivates a society? A nation? Or a collection of nations, that makes of a human world? What is “motive?”
Motivations are energies that animate the psyche, which animates the bio, the body. Psyche motivations also animate the [...]

Psychedelic!

Posted by Ken Fields on October 30, 2009 at 8:01 pm.

You’d think the word psychedelic was entirely modern; but,  “delic” comes from Greek (delein) and means “to make manifest.” So, psychedelic is about making the psyche manifest…well, at least aspects of Psyche which had hitherto been unmanifest. See The Light…And The Shadow

Posted by Ken Fields on October 18, 2009 at 12:49 am.

Photography is all about light. Photo, as a word, is Greek in origin and translates to “light.” The graphing of light, however, is incomplete without shadows. Shadows give distinction and character, dimension and shape. Without shadows, a photograph wouldn’t be much to look at.
Psychologically speaking, the same is true about the mind, or the psyche. [...]

“The Mind Is Its Own Place…”

Posted by Ken Fields on October 18, 2009 at 12:48 am.

Another of my favorite quotes is by the English poet John Milton, from his classic Paradise Lost:
“The mind is its own place and, in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.”
The mind uses language, words, internal dialogue and mental pictures to form its “reality.” Psychotherapy, especially talk therapy,  relies very heavily [...]
