Intro

I’m going to  explain a bit about the words in the title of my blog beginning with the end of the  subtitle: “and other stuff.”  Stuff like language, words, communication, meanings…that stuff is important in therapy, which is another word in the subtitle.

Therapy, like many words used in the English language,  is not English in origin. The original Latin term is Therapeutae and generally means “to attend to, to serve, to nusre, to cure…..” Communication, language, words….those are important in therapy….in healing, curing, nursing the mind and attending to serve the needs of a whole biological, psychological and social being.

Logos, the basis of the word logic, is Greek in origin and translates more literally as (taken from Websters Unabridged 20th Century Dictionary- Second Edition) ” a word: the word by which the inward thought is expressed; the inward thought itself.”

Psyche is….well, Psyche is…a myth. In both Greek and Roman mythology, Psyche is a complex character plagued by  such human issues  as love, jealousy, hatred and reconciliation. Websters dictionary attributes Psyche to the Greek language and translates the word into English as “the soul.”   Although some deny the existence of a “soul” fewer deny the existence of a “mind.”  Modern psychology (i.e., psyche logic) is considered the study of the mind. Psyche Logos ….is the word, or words, by which the inward thought(s) of Psyche are expressed.  Psychelogos Therapeutae, is the use of words and meanings to bring about curing and healing.

Talk story is a phrase used in Hawaii, where I currently reside. It means to sit around and share experience,  with words, which have meanings……

Talk therapy is an exploration of the logical  internal dialogue within the psyche, the mind. Internal dialogue is based in language and built up with words, which have meanings.  One of my favorite quotes is from the English writer, most well know for The Jungle Book,  Rudhyard Kipling.

“Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.”

On The Road

As a semi-professional photographer, I enjoy capturing images. As a psyche-logical educator, I like linking my brief  psychoeducational essays with my photo-visual images, which without a word convey messages,  from which the viewer can formulate their own meanings.

This blog has two categories: psychoeducational and photographical. They are more similar than different. Purely for the sake of categorization, the psychoeducational essays have a photo at the bottom of the page and photographical posts have the photo before any words. This blog is an avenue for me to allow the logic of my  Psyche to a Muse itself poetic and prosaic wordplay and, perhaps, amuse you as well,….I’ll wax thoughtful, fanciful, expositorial, fantastical or serious with and without words…..I’ll talk story…..
